So needless to say, Ryan got himself a very surprising and happy Father's Day present. Both babies are doing really well. They will be in the NICU for up to 2 months (prob. until their due date). They are both on ventilators and other numerous tubes and meds, but the outlook is good. Both have received father's blessings (so has their mom). And they open their eyes and squirm when we go see them.
Sorry for leaving you all hanging for more details, but I am one tired mama who needs to go say goodnight to her kiddos. Thanks for all of the support, love and prayers. We really appreciate it. More to come when we feel up to it...
Those are Amy's words. It is day 4 and we are in a routine of pumping milk every 2-3 hours, trying to catch sleep and scrubbing for 3 minutes to enter the NICU. Ryan and I take turns spending the night in the hospital. Amy is going home today and we are nervous. It is so nice to not have a tub to step over, ice machine feet away, nutritious (lousy) meals delivered 3 times a day, and babies right down the hall. Tomorrow it will be a 20-30 minute drive to the hospital, dragging pumping equipment, and only seeing babies every other day until Amy is healed a bit. But for now we are excited for today as we may have some breakthroughs. If the holes in the babies hearts are healed up they will come off vents today and Amy may get to hold Rachel for a few minutes, Adam too, if he comes off Biliruban lights. All of this is normal for 29 weekers and these babies are doing very well. Being almost 3 pounds was a huge help. Both babies look a lot like Ryan and have dark curly hair. Adam has Ryan's long arms and square palms. Rachel is more feminine and has a sweet little mouth. The nurses are great and all is well for the moment. Things can change and go bad very quickly but we have every reason to be optimistic. I will plan to be here for Amy's shower on the 28th and then may come home sometime that next week. In the meantime, I wash bottles 8-10 times a day, help Amy in the shower, fetch snacks and go visit our little babies. Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes. I will try to keep you posted. They are all in our prayers. I'm glad that they are doing well. They weigh so little, they must be so tiny!
We are thinking of you, Amy and those beautiful babies. I remember my premie. It was impossibly hard to leave the hospital without her. Love and prayers for Amy during this hard time... but they do have the best babysitters!
It was hard last night to leave the babies but they really do have the best baby sitters!
You are such a good grandma..and momma.. I know they know how Blessed they are to have you....Birth is such a Glorious event..even when its early..in fact even moe so..because they were so anxious to get here....apparently Adam was the one who knocked on the door Hard to exit..lol...Miss ya girlfriend.. but you enjoy...Cat
