Soaring in the clouds

On Thursday I flew home from California after spending 10 days with my Mom and Sis. We were flying along in beautiful blue sky and a few wispy white clouds. We were about 20 minutes from St. Louis and as we began to descend, I could see dark, grey, gloomy clouds below us. They were thick and you could not see through them. It was such a contrast from the blue sky immediately about them. We flew lower, right through the dark clouds and we couldn't see anything but dark for a few minutes. Soon, they began to thin and we could see the city. The sky was still grey, but everything was visible, with dark clouds above. I was struck very strongly by the thought that above the mass of thick grey clouds, now above us, was gorgeous blue sky. It was still there, but we couldn't see it. What a lovely metaphor for life. When we are in the midst of trouble and sorrow there is truly a silver (or in this case, blue) lining. The light and joy is right there above us, even in our darkest hour. Right there. And soon, the dark clouds will float away and again, there will be blue sky.
